Looks like the only remaining original judge will be sticking around on American Idol. Randy Jackson is reportedly is nearing a deal to return as a judge for season 12, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jackson will supposedly be taking the spot that was meant to go to Latin singer Enrique Iglesias. Since Idol decided to re-vamp its judging table, Jackson’s future up until now had been up in the air with rumors claiming he would be returning as a mentor but now it seems as if he’ll be joining Mariah Carey and…Nicki Minaj? Keith Urban? There are still some judging seats to be filled. Fox has no comment on the rumors that Randy Jackson is signing on to return.

After 11 seasons and being the only original judge standing Randy Jackson’s future on American Idol is still up in the air. Rumors began circulating awhile ago that Jackson would leave the judge’s table in order to become a mentor to the contestants but his future isn’t concrete quite yet. The final decision won’t be made until the new season 12 judges are in place. A source tells E! News “Negotiations are still in progress and nothing has been decided yet. If he chooses to stay Randy is mulling over what he would like his role to be on the show. This will all be resolved hopefully very soon.” With all this chaos surrounding American Idol judges producer Nigel Lythgoe is considering having one-year judges instead of signing them to multi-season deals.

Fox President Kevin Reilly announced today that Mariah Carey closed a deal to become a judge on the next season of American Idol. Mariah spoke to reporters via speakerphone at the TV Critics Association press tour where Reilly made the annoucement, saying: “I am so excited to be joining Idol. I wish I could have been there myself to tell you. It all kind of just happened real quickly. I can’t wait to get started in a couple months…I will see you in January!” Concerning the other two judges, Reilly also spoke out about their statuses. In regards to Randy Jackson, Reilly stated, “Randy has been working with Mariah for a long, long time and is in fact her co-manager. Randy was very instrumental in this deal.” Seems like Mr. Jackson will remain a judge, no? And as for J.Lo, Reilly put all the rumors to rest by saying there is no chance of her returning for the following season. “I think I can say that’s 100 percent that Jennifer won’t be coming back to the show.” What do you think about Mariah as a judge?

Everything You Need To Know About The Recent American Idol News

After recently reporting about possible judge hopefuls in case one or more of the Idol judges would not be returning for the 12th season, both Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have went on the record to announce that they would not be returning for the upcoming season. On the 12th, Tyler made it official via a Fox press release that he won’t be back because he wants to focus on Aerosmith. In the statement, Tyler said; “Idol was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it…Now it’s time to bring Rock Back.” Less than 24 hours later, Lopez also announced via Ryan Seacrest’s morning radio show that she would also not be returning. “I honestly feel the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that you do, and you have to pay attention to that, too,” she says. “I could keep doing Idol for the rest of my life, but that would be giving up a bunch of other things. I feel like we had an amazing run.” No news on whether or not original judge since season 1 Randy Jackson would still remain on the show but some top choices for replacements for Tyler and Lopez include Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, and Adam Lambert.
