Miley Cyrus’ MTV EMAs Smoking Controversy Investigated by Dutch Police

Miley Cyrus’ MTV EMAs Smoking

During the MTV EMA’s which took place on Sunday in Amsterdam, Miley Cyrus took the stage to collect her first EMA which she won for Best Video for “Wrecking Ball”. During her speech she pulled out what appeared to be a joint and proceeded to light it and take a long drag. “I don’t think I’m going to be able to fit that in my purse so I’ll put it right here for now,” Miley said, before putting the award near her feet. “I couldn’t fit this award in my bag but I did find this,” she said, before pulling out the supposed joint. It now seems that authorities in Amsterdam are investigating how Miley was able to break the rules at the smoke-free awards-show venue. According to police, the Ziggo Dome has a strict nonsmoking policy that was clearly compromised when the pop star lit up on stage. “We received complaints about smoking which was also seen on television. We have to investigate,” said Tjitte Mastenbroek of the National Food and Consumer Authority. “There is a smoking ban in public places in the Netherlands,” Mr Mastenbroek added. “Employees have the right to a smoke-free environment and this includes camera and sound personnel.” Additionally, marijuana is illegal in the Netherlands but possession of less than 5 grams was decriminalized back in the 70s.
